Let's talk color

One of my absolute favorite parts about New York is you can never go too far with your wardrobe. There will always be someone who pushes the envelope further. While I'm too afraid to try outrageous styles, I love experimenting with bold colors and color combos.

Historically, I've stumbled upon my favorite color combos by saying to myself "I really want to wear my navy skirt. What's something new I can pair with it?" I've answered that exact question in the past with gold, bright pink, and even black to create power outfits.

The same is true for these maroon slacks. I've paired these pants numerous times with neutrals in both whites and ivories and darker colors like black and grey. I was so bored with the same predictable pairings, I went to my closet app and began flipping through. I came across this light blue button down blouse and tested it out. The result: a new, colorful power outfit!

I've also found amazing color combo inspiration on the streets of New York, commuting on the train and through my coworkers. At the office one day I remember seeing a great combo of army green pants matched with a baby pink blouse--the perfect combo of girly and tough. I've been trying to pull off a similar combo ever since.

I am drawn to the same colors over and over, and my closet is proof of that. I love jewel tones like emerald and maroon. Additionally, all shades of blue, from navy to brights, to baby blue. In these cases, I tend to pair them with lots of neutrals and statement necklaces.  This is also true for my shoe collection. There's nothing better than an eye-catching, outfit-making heel.

Throughout the course of the week, I like to vary in color as much as style. Today was a gloomy, chilly Monday, so I chose to combat the Monday blues with bright colors. Spoiler alert: I have a grey, monochromatic outfit planned for tomorrow.

Have fun playing with color and finding your own favorite combos. Push boundaries past the New York uniform of black. Start small with statement necklaces or killer heels, but you'll be pairing maroon and blue before you know it!
