Leather is the ultimate cool. So is "leather"

Faux leather, “leather”, pleather. Whatever you want to call it, I was against it for years. It felt inauthentic, fake, yucky. But then it didn’t. I can’t pinpoint what changed my mind or when it happened but one day I found myself in Zara trying on every pair of “leather” (my chosen name, which feels the least icky to me) pants they carried. I walked out with a pair of joggers and yes, they were “leather.” Believe me when I say they are SO comfortable and can easily go from casual with sneakers to dressy with heels and everything in between. And do so by bringing the cool.

There’s something about leather that instantly makes any outfit cooler. I rely so heavily on my beloved All Saints leather jacket to bring the cool and take some many of my outfits from good to great. It’s my handy outfit maker. Is it possible that “leather” could do the same? The answer is yes. Leather coat season in New York is quite short, so to continue the cool vibes, there has to be other ways. Enter “leather” pants.

I had the opportunity to speak at Adobe Max, which is a massive conference dedicated to creativity in LA. I feel strongly that how you look up there on that stage is just as important as what you’re saying. Hundreds of people are watching me, judging me, forming their own opinions. So let’s make them good ones about what I’m saying, but also my fashion sense!

The night before I was flying to LA, I was freaking out that I didn’t have my perfect outfit yet. I headed to Aritizia for one last ditch effort. I grabbed several blouses and one pair of “leather” pants just to try them on with. Well, I surprised myself to walk out with those pants because regardless of what top I put on, the pants MADE the outfit. They fit like they existed just for my body, and were so comfortable. I finally felt I had my power outfit to own that stage.

Call me a convert; I’m now team “leather’! All thoughts of fake have been replaced with thoughts of cool. The secret sauce to instant power outfit is leather and also “leather”. For those wondering, I’m really proud of how I did presenting at Adobe Max. I felt confident and it showed. Magenta and “leather” came together for the ultimate power outfit moment!
