I accidentally bought a new summer wardrobe at Target

The other weekend I made a trip to Target to buy some new hair ties and perhaps browse the bathing suit section.  Two and a half hours later, I emerged with a complete summer wardrobe!

In the past I've ventured into Target to check out designer collaboration collections, but I never casually browsed their clothing section before.  I started in the bathing suit section, as planned, where the selection was amazing.  I always have a difficult time finding bathing suits because my top half and bottom half are different sizes.  It's challenging to find tops that are cute, supportive and appropriate all at the same time.  The great part about Target is that all tops and bottoms are sold as separates, and there are several top and bottom matchings to chose from.  They are also so reasonably priced! After about five trips to the dressing room--there's a strict six items at a time rule--I came out with four new suits.  My cart included a one piece and a high waisted bottom--two items that I didn't think would look good on me, but I was pleasantly surprised and excited to try out.

From there I ventured a little further into the clothing section where I found two of the cutest rompers, one as a bathing suit cover and the other for comfy weekend outings.  My obsession with rompers is getting a little out of hand.  I now have four in my closet, so I'm cutting myself off...for the rest of the summer.

On my way to the dressing room for the sixth time, I stumbled upon the Who What Wear clothing line and immediately grabbed another 15 items to try on--that's another three trips to the dressing room.  The attendant was quickly becoming my buddy and allowed me to take in eight items at a time.  Score!

The Who What Wear line is exactly my office style and really speaks to me.  While some pieces were trendy, others were classic and I could see them being in my closet a long time.  I ended up with three dresses that I could wear to work and for summer get-togethers.  I also bought two skirts that I could wear for multiple seasons.  As I was in the dressing room justifying all of these purchases, I came up with about six different looks around my two new skirts.  I also bought two blouses.  These will both be basic staples that I could dress up or down and pair with multiple options.

For good measure, I also "stumbled" into the shoe department.  I was looking for an easy slip on sandal that I could wear to the beach and pool to avoid damaging my more expensive sandals.  Target did not disappoint.  I chose a slide-on in a bright blue that I could wear with my new romper and other bathing suit covers in my closet.

At this point, the dressing room attendant shift changed and I was worried my husband would send out a search party for me, so I called it quits.  I'm fairly certain that if I stayed I would have ended up with even more Target treasures.  It's so easy to go a little wild because everything is priced so low.  You better believe that I will be setting aside several hours and returning to Target and the Who What Wear line for fall finds.

I spent this past weekend at the beach--the perfect occasion to try out my new Target summer wardrobe.  Here's how I combined my new items with other closet favorites to dress for a whole weekend at the beach.

All of my Target purchases are still available!  Full list of items pictured above:

It took some effort to not wear all Target outfits to work everyday but to spread them out.  I was most excited about the Gingham pencil skirt, so I wore that first.  It's a simple skirt but paired with the heels and high necked, sleeveless blouse, it created a power outfit that received several compliments in the office.  I also plan to pair this with my white crop top for a different take the next time around.  For the cooler, fall months, I picked up a black sweater that will look great with this skirt--a true all-season closet gem.

Outfit breakdown:

  • Black mock neck sleeveless top:  Express (also by Express, this thicker sweater version for $49.90 or this cropped version on sale for $19.99)
  • Gingham pencil skirt:  Who What Wear for Target for $27.99
  • Black sandals:  Steve Madden for $79.95
