One dress, from day to night

I had been regretting this slip dress purchase for some months now.  After seeing so many women effortlessly pull off a dress like this, I had to have one. I finally settled on a classic style in my new favorite shade of olive green. I bought it back in July when I was in Chicago, but only wore it one other time.  It just never seemed to look right on me, and I was about to admit defeat to the slip style completely for my body type.

This dress is admittedly too long on me, and I need to hem it. Without a belt I felt I lost my shape completely. The fit is a bit weird where it's baggy at my waist then a tad too tight over my hips. That said, I really loved the style and color and wanted to make this dress work for me.  Challenge accepted.

For my mom's birthday weekend we planned a day of shopping followed by a fancy dinner with the guys in Pennsylvania.  It was a 90 degree day and I'd be spending a lot of time in the car with little time to get ready for either activity. This slip dress seemed perfect because it was so comfy, light weight, easy to take on and off to try on clothes and the fabric wouldn't wrinkle. The color pulled all the pieces together.

For shopping,  I paired it with my pink Converse sneakers and a cognac skinny belt. Light pink and this olive green is one of my favorite color combinations. It perfectly mixes girly and military styles. The belt effectively cinched the waist and even helped pull the length up a bit while maintaining the casual vibe. It also went well with my crossbody leather purse that I got in Australia many years ago.

After a full day of shopping I swapped my accessories for an evening look in about 10 minutes flat. This black belt with its gold clasp had a fancier feel. I paired it with gold strappy sandals that really elevated the look to evening. This metallic clutch from a Marc Jacobs collaboration with Target a few years ago finished off the look. I put on some pink lipstick, and I was ready for dinner.  Again, the colors are what made this look so special. I'm loving olive green and gold almost as much as olive green and light pink.

A dress that I originally regretted buying just pulled off the most amazing--and easiest--day to evening transition ever.  I had so much fun playing with colors and accessories with this dress.  I'm glad I didn't give up on it, but instead got a little creative with how to make it work for my body type.  I doubt you've seen the last of my sneakers to stilettos pairings with this slip dress!
