The great trench adventure

I've been eyeing flowy trenches for awhile, but one morning on the train platform I saw the most beautiful draped, pastel lavender trench, and I immediately put all of my clothing browsing efforts (a whole lot more than I'm willing to admit) towards finding the most perfect flowy trench to own.

My clothing searches usually span department store sites, my favorite specialty retailers where I'm familiar with thier sizing, Pinterest and mass Google searches if all other searches have lackluster results.  I first stumbled upon this Kensie trench on Nordstrom's site, but I always look for all retailers carrying it to find the best price and shipping options.  Amazon carries it at a lower price, and it was on Prime--win win!

I knew this was the one for me.  While the lavender was gorgeous (and I don't know if I would have been able to say no if I actually found it) I opted for a more neutral, classic color--olive green. Historically flowy tops make me look top heavy. I usually go for fitted cuts to avoid looking like I'm wearing a tent. However, the belt could help me avoid the tent feeling and it was the perfect combo of relaxed flow and touch of fancy.

It arrived, as promised, two days later and I eagerly opened the box, snapped a photo for my closet app and steamed it. Then three weeks went by. First it was too cold (winter in April). Then I realized I had no idea what to wear with my new olive green, flowy trench. Is it a coat? Is it a glorified cardi/blazer I could wear in the office? Beats me.

I put a lot of potential outfits together before finding a match. Neutral light colored blouse and simple slacks with a glam necklace was my final product.  I feel this combo works best because it allows the trench to add the drama.

Since my blouse was sleeveless and the office is always chilly I didn't have to decide if my trench was considered outerwear or acceptable in doors--I wore it all day (you can tell by the wrinkles in the picture...) All in all, I hope this outfit says effortless comfy chic, at least until I spilled the whole backstory!

By the way, during my great trench search, I found the most perfect sleeveless trench in black on a major sale (don't tell my husband!). I'm hoping when it gets a little warmer, this one will have its own adventure to share!
