A Celebration of 2018's Power Outfits

That amazing week between Christmas and New Years provides a much-needed break to forget what day of the week it is, keep your pajamas on all day, and catch up on all the shows you’ve been dying to watch. It also allows the space to go through the end of year process, starting with denial (seriously, how is it about to be 2019?!), including a review of everything that’s happened throughout the year. This year I’m ending with a celebration.

This past year I did a lot of work to improve myself. I made a self-care routine on Sundays to fight off the blues. I committed to (and won!!) a fitness challenge at work where I learned that I love boxing (the best stress release ever!) and deepened my passion for dancing. I took a good look at what was in my life that wasn’t bringing me joy, and I’m working to change or remove those things (Magenta Blazer started a new chapter earlier this year). I’m proud of myself for the progress I’ve made, but there is still so much more to do. Now, on to the celebration!

Magenta Blazer was created to share and inspire ways to feel comfortable and confident in your clothing and how the right outfit can give you that “I can conquer anything” feeling. Simply put, I call this the power outfit. Whether you’re heading to an important meeting, meeting your significant other’s parents, or just need some extra pep in your step to get through the day, a power outfit can give you that strut-worthy, pure love for one’s self, confident feeling. Let’s take a look back at the outfits that did it for me throughout the year and celebrate confidence. Use this to inspire some of your own good vibes and looks to bring you into 2019 wrapped in positivity and power.

A couple of themes to my 2018 power outfits:

  • Don’t be afraid of color. It makes life more vibrant.

  • Monochromatic: whether in neutrals or shades of a bold color, wearing the same color head to toe screams sophistication.

  • Jumpsuits! Reach for one instead of another dress. Layer to extend the season of your favorite jumpsuit.

  • Statement shoes + booties in fun prints make all the difference.

  • Accessories: Add a fun hat, a sleeveless blazer, a fur stole, layered necklaces, or a killer bag to pull the whole look together.

  • Rethink your assumptions about certain items. Graphic tees and off-the-shoulder tops can be worn in the office with the right parings.

When you find your own power outfits throughout the year, find a way to save them. Take a picture, tag with #poweroutfit, write it down in a journal, organize in your closet app—whatever works best for you. This way when you’re having one of those uninspiring, “I have nothing to wear” type of days, you can look at your own library of looks that you know will make you feel like a million bucks the moment you put them on. Here’s to more power outfits and strutting into 2019 in confidence!
