My New Summer Shopping Go-To

Back in the Spring I had the biggest closet clean out to date; I removed 124 items from my closet! Most of them were summer items that I’ve been hanging on to for far too long. Naturally, I had some holes to fill in my closet and I saw this as a great opportunity to do some major shopping! As I did my online browsing, many of my summer mainstays like Express and Target just didn’t have what I was looking for. I was in the market for two particular trends that have become my summer staples:

  1. Some easy, fun dresses that I could pair with sneakers and sandals alike.

  2. Colorful, statement-making crop tops I can pair with high-waisted bottoms.

I do lots of online browsing, that’s a given. Major department stores tend to be my starting point when I’m looking for specific items. The AQUA line at Bloomingdales’s caught my eye with great prints and vast style options. The reasonable prices and almost always sales had me jumping for joy and returning multiple times throughout the summer to fill my closet.

I’m always in need of some easy dresses that I can throw on quickly and easily dress up or down with shoes and accessories. I went in with a particular eye to fun prints I can wear with sneakers on the weekend but also to work, since my office dress code is so flexible. I also always require something that has a defined waist so it’s flattering on my figure. I found so many options that matched my criteria and chose two purchase two that both were on sale!!

This exact dress is no longer available, but here are four other AQUA dresses that fit the bill. Notice that they’re all pictured with heels or flat sandals. All would also look great with sneakers! I’ve found that as long as the pattern includes a tiny bit of white or the color of your sneakers, you’re good to go! Click to shop each one.

Cropped tops paired with high waisted bottoms have been my go-to ride or die pairing through every season. I was in the market for a couple new options in vibrant colors and island vibes for summer. The AQUA line had so many options, more than I was expecting!

This is where I admit that as I was collecting my favorites for this article, I I have the red leopard and long-sleeved crops sitting in my cart right now with plan to place yet another AQUA order. I think the long-sleeved beauty is a perfect transitional crop into fall. Click my favorites below to shop.

I came for the crop tops but fell in love with the matching sets! Shop bottoms by clicking below. I’m really digging the sets as a great alternative to a dress with just a bit of skin showing. You can also wear them as separates as pictured above. You buy one outfit but gain multiple pairing options at the same time! I plan to continue mixing and matching the sets through the rest of the summer.

With so much uncertainty, it’s time to focus on really smart purchases. There’s nothing more reasonable than a dress that works for every season, and I’ve got the one! I styled my slip dress four different ways, one for each season.

Jax and I are settling into our new normal. For him it’s a whole lot more cuddles and longer walks. For me it’s a new way to wear a neckerchief, among manyyy other things.
